Metamorphosis

60 min. documentary on the process of metamorphosis

One of the most spectacular processes that can be observed in nature is the metamorphosis of many species of insects. Especially those called holometabolous insects.

The development of most animals, their evolution from embryonic to adult form, is a sequential process. A process in which changes are often subtle and continuous.

However, in the case of holometabolous insects, which include butterflies, mosquitoes, beetles and mayflies, these changes are radical and abrupt.

From caterpillar to butterfly. From aquatic larva to terrestrial mosquito, from worm to wasp? Transformations that lead to the emergence of an animal completely different from the previous one. But only apparently.

They are animals that live two lives.

Two lives in one.
