Termites. At the feet of the forest.

Approximately one-third of the surface of the continents is covered by forests.

Trees are, above all, extraordinary energy accumulators. They capture sunlight and store its energy in the form of wood in their trunks, branches, and roots.

There are very few animals capable of feeding on wood.

Among them, termites stand out.

Termites are social insects, and their society is organized into castes: workers, soldiers, and primary and secondary reproductives.

Their extraordinary organization, as well as their close symbiotic relationship with bacteria and protozoa, have made these tiny insects some of the most important inhabitants of forests.
